AMA, Peña Ganchegui Prize 2025

The architecture studio AMA, formed by Jaime Gutiérrez Armendariz and Itziar Molinero Miranda, has been awarded the 2025 Peña Ganchegui Prize for Young Basque Architecture.

The jury, composed in this 5th edition of Carme Pinós, Begoña Fernández-Shaw, and Ángel Martínez García-Posada, praised the coherence and delicacy of their trajectory, which reveals a sensitive attention to detail and place, as well as the ability to intertwine research with professional practice.

In addition to awarding AMA, the jury granted a special mention to Borja Martínez (Interplay studio), highlighting the solidity of his trajectory, which demonstrates formal talent, strategic insight, and an intelligent discourse.

The list of finalists is completed by Xabier Artola, for his formal ability and community- and landscape-oriented vocation; Sara Enríquez (Lokuluxka studio), for the elegant adaptation of her interventions to their sites from both material and perceptual perspectives; and Mikel Ortiz de Eribe (Eitzen studio), for his careful attention to detail in diverse projects within demanding regulatory frameworks.

The award was presented by the Basque Government’s Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Denis Itxaso, at the Basque Institute of Architecture. Following the ceremony, an exhibition of the finalist entries opened in the institute’s lobby, which can be visited until November 30th. Both events are part of the 5th edition of the Mugak/ International Architecture Biennial.
