Itziar Molinero Miranda (Donostia, 1994) and Jaime Gutierrez Armendariz (Bilbao, 1994), architects from the University of the Basque Country and holders of Master's degrees in Architecture from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, founded the AMA Architectural Office studio in 2023, after collaborating with various studios in Barcelona (Udeu, Anna & Eugeni Bach, MiM arquitectes, Ida and López Rivera).
Their interest in the academic field has led them to link it to their own practice, participating as tutors and junior lecturers at ETSAV, and giving workshops and talks at the School of Architecture of the Basque Country. They have also participated in the 2025 Workshop Week at the IED Kunsthal Bilbao, and from the next academic year onwards they will be part of the teaching team for the “Introduction to Interior Design” course taught at that centre.
Several of AMA's works have received recognition, notably the ephemeral installation “Garabiak” (selected for the ARQUITECTURA CSCAE 2024 Awards and the FAD 2024 Awards) and the research work “Trazas de Ronda” (exhibited in 2023 at the ARTNOU young art festival, published that same year as part of the 4th Mugak Biennial, finalist in 2024 at the 13th BIAU, and winner of the AJAC Research Award in 2025).
The latest projects being developed by the studio are the result of competitions won: In 2024, the Casa Sasturain Rehabilitation Project, which includes the construction of five social housing units and a day centre in Basaburua (Navarra), and in 2025, one of the temporary pavilions for the 5th Mugak/ Biennial and the Izurtza Square Rehabilitation Project (Bizkaia).
