2023 Edition
In its fourth edition, the winner of the PEÑA GANCHEGUI PRIZE for Young Basque Architecture was the architectural studio ORTEGA DIAGO, formed by Gonzalo Sánchez Ortega and Armando Diago.
2023 Winner
The jury of the Peña Ganchegui Prize 2023, formed by María Langarita, Fernando Márquez and Antonio Ortiz, awarded the prize to the Ortega Diago architecture studio, formed by Gonzalo Sánchez Ortega and Armando Diago. The jury valued the exercise of spatial synthesis in the projects presented, the delicacy in the treatment of materials, the singular programmatic solutions, the concern for fluidity in the circulations, and the emphasis on transparencies.
2023 Mention
In addition to the prize for the winner, the jury awarded three special mentions: firstly, to the architect Amaia Arana, whose residential projects were valued for their notable attention to environmental concerns and exquisite care in the treatment of materials; secondly, to the Gurea cooperative, which was recognised for its contemporary, cooperative, conscious and responsible practice that takes on the challenges of the new energy and social paradigms: and thirdly, to the Mugara studio, which was valued for its particular way of looking at reality, highlighting the singularity and diversity of the solutions, as well as the risk taken in its proposals.
2023 Finalists
Finally, the Jury added to the 4 previous candidatures those presented by Anarte, Eloi Landia and Equi Studio as finalists for the Peña Ganchegui Prize 2023, also recognising the value of their trajectory, their diversity of approaches and the interesting lines of work that, associated with architectural praxis, they adress.
