In addition to having a representative from each of the two convening institutions (which will have a voice but no vote), the jury for the Fourth Edition of the Peña Ganchegui Prize for Young Basque Architecture will be made up of the architects María Langarita, Fernando Márquez and Antonio Ortiz.
(Zaragoza, 1979) Architect since 2003 by the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and PhD since 2016 by the ETSAM, she shares a studio with Victor Navarro since 2005. She combines her work as an architect with teaching projects at the School of Architecture of Madrid since 2013, after teaching at the Schools of Architecture of Zaragoza (2009-2011) and Alicante (2011-2013).
Her work has been recognised with the FAD Award 2012, AR+D Award for Emerging Architecture (2012), the special mention "Emerging Architect" of the Mies Van der Rohe Award 2013, Award of the XII Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (2013), COAM Award 2013 and 2022, AD New Values Award (2013) and the Young Archirtect of the Year Award (2014) among many others.
Langarita-Navarro's works have been selected and shown in several exhibitions such as XI Venice Architecture Biennale (Venice, 2008), XI Spanish Architecture Biennale (2011), Young Architects Program of Maxxi Roma (2011), Arquia Próxima 2012, XIV Venice Architecture Biennale (2014), at the 6th Edition of the Shenzhen Architecture and Urbanism Biennale (2015), and at the Architekturzentrum Vienna (2014), at the Royal Institute of British Architects (2013). Invited to give numerous lectures and workshops, their work is part of the permanent collection of the Centre Pompidou, has been featured in various publications and has a monographic issue in the magazine 2G.
(Madrid, 1957). Architect since 1980 from the ETSAM. In 1982, together with Richard Levene, he founded the architectural studio and publishing house El Croquis. Since then they have edited and run the magazine of the same name, which has published over 200 issues to date, and the Biblioteca de Arquitectura collection of books on theory and essays.
In 1999 they inaugurated the Galería de Arquitectura El Croquis, in El Escorial, as a place to exhibit the most significant projects under construction in Spain, exemplified in their models.
He has been a lecturer in the Projects Department of the School of Architecture and Art at the European University of Madrid, where he was responsible, from 2000 to 2010, for teaching the subject "History of Architecture and Art of the 20th century".
Invited to participate, throughout these years, in several courses, seminars and architecture juries, among his most outstanding awards are the COAM Publications Award (1985), EXPORT Award (1992) of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid, FAD Medal (2004), Media Partner of the World Architecture Festival (2008), RIBA International Fellowship (2014).
(Seville, 1947). Architect since 1974 from the Madrid School of Architecture, he has shared a professional studio with Antonio Cruz since 1971 after having worked in Rafael Moneo's studio in 1968. He has been a visiting professor at the polytechnics of Zurich (1987-1989) and Lausanne (1992-1993), at the Pamplona School of Architecture (1995-1996, 2000-2001), at Cornell University (1992), Columbia University (1998) and Harvard University (1989-1990, 1994-1995), where he held the Kenzo Tange Chair of the G.S.D. (2002).
Since 2004, he has been an honorary professor at the University of Seville and holds the White Chair at the School of Architecture. He has recently been a visiting professor at the Technische Universiteit in Delft, Holland, and at the School of Landscape, Engineering and Architecture (Hepia) in Geneva, Switzerland.
Cruz y Ortiz's work has been widely published in the main specialised publications and several monographic publications have been published on his work (Tanais Ediciones, Princeton Architectural Press, Birkhäuser, A&V and Gustavo Gili).
Exhibitions of his work have also been held in Zurich (E.T.H.), Bern (Amthaus), Lausanne (EPFL), Bolzano (Ordine degli Architetti), Boston (Harvard, Graduate School of Design), Berlin (Aedes East Gallery), Seville and Granada (Junta de Andalucía).
Selected to represent Spain at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2014, among the many awards received by the Cruz y Ortiz studio are the National Architecture Prize (1992), the Gold Medal of Andalusia (1997), the Spanish International Architecture Award CSCAE (2013), and the American Institute of Architects AIA Honour Award (2014).
